Mid-May
update on our Family of Racers
While our main team
recovers from a tough start to the season we and our
teammates have hardly sat still.
Jody London has his
SST Modified up for sale and continues doing some
basic maintenance “just in case” he gets the itch
and the support to go back to mod racing. In the mean
time he has bought two karts and is racing in the
Upstate NY area with drivers Cassie McGrath, daughter
of modified driver Tom McGrath and co-driver Andy
Jankowiak, both drivers are out of the Greater Buffalo
area. Cassie made her first outing at Paradise
Speedway (Geneva) and found that karting on dirt was a
bit different than 4 cylinder cars on asphalt. The
kart was not quite set up properly yet Cassie hung in
there and battled hard and is looking forward to
better results come June. Andy took the #89 kart out
the following week and with an updated set-up managed
a fine 2nd place finish. As Jody’s drivers will be
busy for the next few weeks in their personal race
machines, Jody will be gracing local speedways lending
a hand to his many friends.
Spencer Speedway
hosted their first of 2 practice sessions and we had
the repaired #05 back for some testing which showed
improvements and gave us additional ideas to try out
at the next practice. After the session, our team
decided it would be best to skip the upcoming
Shangri-La 2 RoC race in favor of better preparation
for the Oswego RoC race in 3 weeks.
Team crew member John
Avery took his #11 SST Modified out for his first laps
ever at the newly repaved speedway. John said that the
experience was quite a bit different than his drag
racing experience and he’s looking forward to laying
down more laps at the next test session.
Super Six driver and
crewman Ryan Hillegeer was also at practice and left
with a challenge to solve an overheating problem but
eager for the season to begin.
Big brother Kris
Hillegeer is finishing up his Super Stock and should
be shaking things down at the next test session as
well. And big news, Kris’ son Tucker debuted his
driving prowess at the Sodus Microd Club where he
showed everyone that competition means a lot to him.
The fleet of #18 blue race cars continues to grow.
Bob Tryka has returned
to our acing family and will crew occasionally on
Friday nights at Spencer while focusing most of his
attention on completing his #33 Super Stock which we
hope to have finished by late June.
So whether you enjoy
Microds, Karts, Super Sixes, Super Stocks, SST
Modifieds or RoC Modifieds, keep an eye out for the
EpicVentures logo on the track and please stop by and
say hello after the races.
